Gummy Smile
What is a Gummy Smile?
A gummy smile is also known as excessive gingival display.
The condition causes the upper lip to elevate above the upper teeth, exposing a disproportionate amount of pink gum tissue.
When some people smile, their upper lip elevates further above their upper teeth, exposing the pink gum tissue. This is referred to as a gummy smile. It can happen due to a number of causes.
Botulinum Toxin treatments provide the solution to a gummy smile. Administered by our expert’s botulinum Toxin paves the way to a more confident smile.
The most common causes of a gummy smile include:
Teeth that appear short and remain partially covered by gum tissue
A thin upper lip that is too short to cover the gums
An upper lip that is normal in length when the face is resting, but lifts too high when smiling, hence exposing a lot of gum tissue
Gingival hypertrophy (enlarged gum tissue) which elevates the upper lip
Maxillary excess (an overgrowth of the upper jaw that makes gums bulge out)
